Denise Zelenak
- Head Coach Drexel University
Denise Zelenak returns to the sidelines for her 11th season as
the Head Coach of the Drexel field hockey program and her fourth
year at the BLUE
HEN ELITE FIELD HOCKEY CAMP. She took over the Drexel
program in 1994 and has resurrected the program. The Dragons compete in arguably
the top field hockey conference in the country. She has led the Dragons to
at least 11-win seasons four times in the last six years.
Zelenak's extensive field hockey resume is highlighted by her
outstanding achievements on the field as well. An integral member
of a highly successful West Chester program that ranked in the
NCAA Division I top-20 throughout her playing career, Zelenak earned
Regional All-American recognition and was an Olympic Festival participant.
In 1989, she played for the U.S. National reserve team before graduating
in 1991 with a degree in health and physical education.
Zelenak's post-collegiate playing career has been equally impressive.
A USFHA National Indoor Tournament All-Star in 1994 and 1995, she
led her team to the 1998 National Indoor Championship and the 2001
championship. She also competed from 1998-2001 in the U.S. United
Airlines Summer League for the Metro Rush and in 2003 for the Fury.
In 2000, she served as the team's player-coach.. Zelenak is in
her second year with the U.S. National Indoor Field Hockey team.
A co-captain of the team, she will be competing in the Pan American
Games in Kitchener, Ontario this December.
A former captain of the Puerto Rican National Team, Zelenak competed
in a six-game series with Mexico, the Puerto Rican Olympic Festival
and the Central American Games. She was heavily involved with the
Puerto Rican National Organization and has coached various clinics
over the past few months.
Sarah Catlin - Head Coach LaSalle University
Sarah Catlin enters her fifth season at the helm of the LaSalle
University field hockey program and her fourth year at the BLUE
HEN ELITE FIELD HOCKEY CAMP. In her first two
seasons at LaSalle, Catlin quickly established an excellent academic
program, winning the first of three-straight school best fall team
GPA's in 2002. A year later, 2003, saw the squad move onto
a national stage with the second highest GPA in the country, along
with the programs best win total in over a decade.
Catlin graduated from Bucknell University in 1998, and took her
first coaching job as an assistant coach at Columbia University. The
following spring she accepted the assistant coach position at Miami
University of Ohio. In the spring of 2001, she left the program
and took over the head coach position at Susquehanna University
in lacrosse, leading the team to its first regular season title.
Outisde of her collegiate coaching background, Catlin has worked at an
extensive list of summer camps and US Field Hockey programs. She concluded
her fourth year as one of Pennsylvania's Level I Futures coaches, and is a
member of the NY/NJ/PA EPTC coaching team.
Monica Morgan Levy - Head Coach Monmouth
University
Monica Morgan Levy returned to the sidelines of the
Monmouth University Field Hockey program for her ninth season after
a one-year hiatus. And she returns to the BLUE
HEN ELITE FIELD HOCKEY CAMP once again this year as well. Since Monmouth’s
program's inaugural year in 1997, Levy has steadily improved the
quality of play. In the first season, she won four games with a
squad that featured 30 freshmen. And by 2000, she guided Monmouth
to an 11-9 mark to give the Hawks their first winning record. The
11 wins also topped the league record. The success was evident
in league play as the Hawks compiled a 9-1 Northeast Conference
record and captured the regular season crown Levy has been recognized
for her coaching exploits, earning NEC Coach of the Year honors
two of the last five years!
Prior to Monica’s arrival at Monmouth she spent three seasons
as an assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at the University
of Delaware. She helped both squads earn national rankings during
her tenure from 1993 to 1996.. As a collegiate athlete – Monica
was a four-year starter in both field hockey and lacrosse at Lafayette
College. She earned All-Patriot honors in both sports and was also
named to the regional All-American team in field hockey as a senior.
A 1993 graduate, she served as team captain on both squads during
her career. As a sophomore, she helped guide the Leopards to an
NCAA Tournament appearance in lacrosse.
Jessica Reed - Head Field Hockey Coach Stevens Institute
of Technology
In February of 2004, Head Coach Jessica Reed accepted the challenge
of building the Stevens field hockey program from the ground up. In just one year,
Reed transformed a squad with only one victory into a winning program. The
second-year squad finished their 2005 season 10-7 and avenged seven
losses from the 2004 season.
Reed is a 2000 graduate from American University where she earned
a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. Reed was a four-year starter at left midfield
for American, which was then ranked No. 12 nationally. She was a three-time
member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Academic
Squad and a four-time Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete.
Reed spent one year as an assistant coach at Georgetown in the
fall of 2001 before joining the staff at Drexel University. During her tenure at Drexel, Reed
helped the squad to an 11-win season and a berth in the ECAC Tournament in 2002
- the school’s first year in the competitive Colonial Athletic Association. Reed
also holds coaching roles in the United State Field Hockey Association’s
Olympic Development program. She has served as head coach for the Central
New Jersey U-16 Futures field hockey site for four years. Reed has twice
been invited to coach at the National Futures tournament and has been selected
to coach at Junior Olympics and the High School Open Camp. And
will be coaching her fourth year at the BLUE HEN ELITE FIELD HOCKEY CAMP.
Reed also loves playing as much as coaching. She was selected to
compete in the North American Premier Indoor League as part of the
New York (2005) and Philadelphia squads (2004, 2003), and the USFHA
summer league as part of the Philadelphia Fury team (2004, 2003).
Amanda Janney - Head Coach Temple University
Amanda Janney has taken over the helm as the Head Field Hockey
Coach at Temple University for the 2005 Fall Season. Janney
came to Temple with a wealth of coaching and playing experience. She
served as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at the University of
Pennsylvania from 2003-05 has served as a coach and director for
various camps and national youth teams, including the United States
Field Hockey Association’s (USFHA) Futures
Program, the AAU Junior Olympics, the USA/Canada Field Hockey Challenge
and the USFHA National Field Hockey Festival. She also received
coaching certification from the NCAA, USFHA Level One Coaching,
the USFHA Futures Program and the Greg Gephart Fund Coaching Clinic.
As a player, Janney’s resume is just as impressive. A four-year
center forward for the Wake Forest University field hockey team,
Janney helped the Demon Deacons to a Top 20 National Ranking and
graduated among the school’s top ten in career goals (21)
and assists (17).
A two-year member of Metro Rush, a USFHA Summer League Team,
Janney played in the All-Star Game against the U.S. National Team
in 2005. She
is also a skilled indoor play in 2004, Janney was selected as an
alternate member of the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Team.
She also competed for Team Dita in the 2004 North American Premier
League and was named a NAPL All-Star.
Janney was recently accepted in the USFHA’s Elite Performance
Training Center for the Pennsylvania/New Jersey region. The EPTC
is a player development program designed to train players for the
demands of the international game. Amanda will be coaching her
second year at the BLUE HEN ELITE FIELD HOCKEY CAMP.
Goalkeeping Staff
Amy Cohen, former standout Goalkeeper at Lafayette College, Easton
PA, and intern under her former coach Anne Gold, joined the University
of Delaware Coaching Staff as a part-time assistant for the 2002
season. During her tenure at the University of Delaware
she has coached and developed one of the best goalkeeping crews
in the CAA and NCAA to date.
Cohen was a four-year starter for the Leopards and started in
76 straight games. She recorded 6 shutouts while starting every
game her freshman year. Her sophomore year she led her team to
the Patriot League Conference Championship and first-ever NCAA
Tournament appearance for the College. She also started every game
her junior and senior years while posting 4 and 6 shutouts respectively.
And, in her final season as a Leopard, she led her team to a second
place Patriot League Tournament finish. During her career she was
selected as a Regional All-American and holds the 2nd all-time
saves record in a career at Lafayette with 541.
While playing for the Leopards she majored in History and made
the Deans list and Patriot League Academic/Athletic Honor roll.
She also served on the College Sports Council - where she was elected
by her peers to serve as the Vice President to communicate ideas
and concerns regarding student-athletes welfare.
Amy has been a United States Field Hockey Futures Goalkeeping
coach for the last three years and has an outstanding resume as
a goal-keeping staff member at many elite camps in Pennsylvania
and New Jersey. She has been appointed the Head Goal Keeping coach
for Futures at the Delaware Site.
Amy is completing her fourth year as the HEAD GOALKEEPING Coach
@ the BLUE HEN FIELD HOCKEY CAMPS where she has
been instrumental in the development of many of our best area high
school goal keepers.
Other Staff
Other staff members may include motivational speakers, exercise
scientists and strength & conditioning trainers as well as
other college coaches. College players will be involved as counselors
and demonstrators on the field.
